Association of technical universities of Russia and China (ATURC) was solemnly established

On March 6, 2011 in Shenzhen in People’s Republic of China in The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) branch the Association of technical universities of Russia and China (ATURC) was solemnly established. The ceremony was attended by the delegates from the universities - members of the Association, as well as the representatives of the Russian Consulate General in China, senior officials of the Ministry of Education of China and Shenzhen City Hall.
 
The Association of technical universities of Russia and China is created to join together leading technical universities’ efforts to train highly qualified personnel for the innovative economy, to promote academic student and teacher exchange, to develop scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and China.
 
The priority objectives of the Association are the following: to carry out the comparative analysis of Russian and Chinese systems of engineering education; to share the experience in the field of engineering education and research; to organize the International Cooperation of the universities – members of the Association in the field of scientific research; to promote the development of Common Education Space, mutual recognition and equivalence of diplomas of the universities – members of the Association; to raise funds of state authorities, public organizations, state enterprises and private companies to develop the engineering training system; to enhance the role of engineering education and science; to coordinate and promote the international cooperation of the Association with the associations of universities from the other countries in the field of engineering education, science and culture; to organize the international scientific and methodological conferences, seminars, videoconferences, scientific research, and traineeships; to organize interdisciplinary business, sports, science, and creative competitions between students and university staff; to assist in organizing and conducting international public accreditation of academic programs of the universities – members of the Association.
 
The Association was founded at the premises of BMSTU and HIT with the further establishment of Management Offices at these universities. BMSTU Rector Anatoly Aleksandrov and HIT Rector Wang Shuguo were elected as chairmen of the Association for the first two years by the majority of votes. 30 universities, 15 universities from each side, have become the first members of the Association. Their representatives signed the Declaration on the establishment of technical universities in Russia and China.
 
After the founders’ meeting on creation of the Association of technical universities in Russia and China finished, III Sino-Russian conference "The Role of Technical Universities in Building an Innovation Economy" was held. The representatives of two universities delivered the important reports there.
