Anatoly Alexandrovich Aleksandrov is the Rector of Moscow State Technical University named after Bauman, the laureate of RF government prize in the field of science and technology, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences.
Anatoly Alexandrovich Aleksandrov was born on April 7, 1951 in Izjaslav, the Ukrainian SSR in a military family. After leaving school he worked as a laboratory assistant at Altai Research Institute of Chemical Technology.
In 1969 he entered Moscow Higher Technical School named after Bauman, which he graduated from in 1975 with a degree in "Mechanical equipment of automated installations". When a student he was engaged in public work, was elected a secretary of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League in MHTS. After graduating from Moscow State Technical University named after Bauman he was assigned as an engineer at the profiling Department "Launch Complexes."
A research engineer, a graduate student, the first secretary of the MHTS All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, a deputy director and chief engineer , a director of the pilot plant –these are the main stages of university way of Anatoly A. Aleksandrov. Despite the great amount of administrative work, A. Aleksandrov is engaged in scientific and educational activities. The area of Rector’s expertise extends into the sphere of residual life assessment of technical facilities, fracture mechanics, resource and nature conservation during the liquid hydrocarbon fuel storage and transportation using cryogenic technology.
Under his leadership the complex “Erest” which is widely used in Moscow and major cities to capture the liquid hydrocarbon at fuel tank farms and gas stations. A diagnostic complex “Avtokon – MSTU” was established with his direct participation. This complex is for non-destructive testing of welds on oil and gas pipelines and structural components of nuclear energy. A part of scientific papers created by Anatoly A. Aleksandrov is devoted to risk assessment of accidents and natural and man-made emergency situations. The research results were used in the design of the main oil pipeline "Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean" (ESPO-1, ESPO-2), in the design work on the influence of tectonic faults on the stability of the pipeline and in the development of meaningful solutions to improve system reliability. In 2001 Anatoly A. Aleksandrov was awarded the Russian Federation Government Prize in science and technology for the development of diagnostic complex for chimneys at plants and factories.
Anatoly A. Aleksandrov is the author of over 80 scientific papers in the field of risk theory, fracture mechanics, safety and hazardous facilities operation, including two patents and four monographs.
In April 2010, Anatoly A. Aleksandrov was elected the Rector of the main technical university of Russia. Anatoly A. Aleksandrov does a lot of social work. He is a:

member of the Presidential Council for Science, Technology and Education;
member of the Advisory Working Group of the Presidential Commission of the Russian Federation on modernization and technological development;
member of the Scientific Coordinating Council of FSPP "Research and Development in Priority Fields of Scientific and Technological Sector of Russia for 2007-2012" MES of RF;
member of the Council for Scientific and Technological Policy at the Defense Ministry;
member of board of directors of "Skolkovo" Foundation;
member of the Public Council under the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation;
member of the Public Council under the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation;
President of the Association of Technical Universities in Russia;
member of the editorial boards of several academic periodical.
Anatoly A. Aleksandrov was awarded the Medal of Honour For Labour Valour, the medal “850 years of Moscow", "Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation" , departmental sign of MOE "For Merit". In 2012 Anatoly A. Aleksandrov was awarded the Medal of Honour for achievements in education, science and great contribution to the training of qualified specialists.
